What makes all of this truly hilarious is the completely benign nature of Garfield comics. Jim Davis (the comic's creator) has managed to avoid controversy since Garfield debuted in 1978. Why would David choose to rock the boat now? He didn't! According to the artist's Web site, the comic's appearance on Veteran's Day was a complete accident. Below is a comment from Davis.

Seriously? All this over a Garfield cartoon? Even if Davis hadn't managed to avoid offending ANYONE over the last 32 year, the nature of this particular comic allowed for some benefit of the doubt.
