Anyone that smokes (and many who would never) has probably heard about the new FDA regulations that will implement graphic warnings on all cigarette packages sold in the United States.
No, the graphic warnings for American cigarette packaging won't be as dramatic as the labels seen in other countries, like Singapore. (Warning: That link probably isn't for anyone with a weak stomach.
The new warning labels will attempt to raise awareness of the health concerns surrounding smoking since smoking levels in the U.S. has leveled off following years of decline. Here's what the new proposed packages look like:
The FDA is asking the public to vote on the image they think is the most effective. You can vote here. The picture above was just a sample of the proposed images. In total there are 36 proposed graphic warnings.
Honestly, though, I think my favorite warning label has to this one from America's socialist hat, Canada.
No one will deny that smoking is a significant public health risk but American smoking levels have been stable despite public awareness of the dangers so the new regulations will probably have little effect.
